Carolyn Hughes

Carolyn A. Hughes, 91, of McDonald, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022 at Community HealthCare Solutions in Niles. Carolyn was born September 3, 1930 in Liberty Twp., Ohio, a daughter of Rees and Harriet (Barclay) Emerick.

She was a member of Girard First United Methodist Church and the Lydia Circle, the Girard Senior Citizens and the McDonald Senior Citizens. Carolyn's faith and her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother were the most important to her in her lifetime.

In her spare time she enjoyed puzzles and reading and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, Donald R. (Susan) Hughes of North Jackson and Jeffrey W. (Diane) Hughes of McDonald, grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jennifer) Hughes, Erica (Ryan) Hughes, Steven (Jaclyn) Hughes and Laura (Aaron) Willard, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Hughes whom she married May 15 1954 and died September 27, 1995; her infant son David Hughes; sister Barbara Wade and brother Dean Emerick.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 1st, 6:00 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home, where family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until the time of service. Carolyn will be laid to rest at Girard City Cemetery next to her husband. The family suggests any memorial contributions be made to the church memorial fund.
