Edward C. Deitsch Jr., 81, of Youngstown, Ohio, passed away at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital in Boardman, Ohio, on Monday, May 18, 2026.
Eddie was born on December 4, 1944, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, the son of Edward C. and Elvera (Pasquerilla) Deitsch Sr.
He worked as a machinist for Republic Steel, where he also served as president of Steelworkers Local 1375, before retiring after 36 years. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication, never missing a day of work.
Eddie owned and operated the Army and Navy Garrison #360 on Logan Avenue in Youngstown for more than 20 years. It was more than a business to him — it was a place where people came together. He was also a member of VFW Post 3767 and the Marconi Club, both in Hubbard. A man of few words, Eddie often showed how much he cared through his actions. He was known for supporting various organizations and charitable causes throughout the Valley.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, boating, playing bocce with friends, and trips to Las Vegas to play Let It Ride. You could always find him on his backhoe, whether he was working on a project, helping someone out, or simply keeping busy doing something he enjoyed.
He leaves to cherish his memory his three daughters, Dina Lynn Robinson (Scott Guidos) of Farrell, Pennsylvania; Patricia Watts of Girard; and Tracy L. Frye-Cannistra (Ed Cannistra) of Youngstown; his grandchildren, Tay Anthony Robinson, Cody Frye, Jessica Watts, Cassidy Frye-Galliher, and Trey Eugene Robinson; seven great-grandchildren; his brothers, Thomas (Candy) Deitsch and Ricky (Louise) Deitsch; along with his beloved dog, Otis, who he adored.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Elaine Deitsch; and his one true love, Jeanne Guerino, with whom he shared his three daughters.
Visitation for Edward will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, with a funeral service to follow.
He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown alongside his parents.
In the spirit of Eddie’s generous and giving nature, the family kindly asks that, in lieu of flowers, material contributions be made to a charity of one’s choice.
