Elizabeth "Betty" DiPiero

Elizabeth "Betty" (Pappa) DiPiero, 88, of Girard, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, July 19th, 2025.Betty was born in Hubbard, Ohio, on May 31st, 1937, the daughter of James V. and Mary (Sperko) Pappa. 

She moved to Girard on October 1st, 1960, when she married her husband, Henry A. DiPiero. 

Betty graduated from St. Patrick School and Hubbard High School. She went on to attend the Trumbull Memorial School of Nursing, graduating in 1958; and later, graduated from Youngstown State University in 1981, with her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. Betty was a registered nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital, as well as Warren General Hospital, and also worked for both Youngstown and Girard Local School districts as a school nurse. 

Betty was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Girard, Girard Herb Society, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society, and 2 bocce leagues. Along with bocce, Betty also enjoyed golfing and bowling, and had a love for reading, traveling, and taking day trips. 

She is survived by her son, Donald DiPiero; daughters, Diana Reams and Donna (Christopher) Latimer; ten grandchildren, Jennifer, Angela, Dylan, Robert, Carley, Nicholas, Cherilyn, Zachary, Caylee and Maisie; and three great-grandchildren, Jack, Emily, and Noa. 

Along with her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Henry, who passed away in 1999; her three brothers, Fred, Jack and Jim; and two sisters-in-law, Alice and Fran.

Family and friends will gather for calling hours on Tuesday, July 29th, 2025, from 10-11:00AM at St. Rose Church in Girard, with a funeral mass to follow.

The family also wishes to express gratitude to the staff at Shepherd of the Valley for the kindness and care given to Betty; with a special thanks to the friends she made there for the way they came together with their love, support and guidance for Betty, her family, and her beloved dog, Abby.
