James A. Lambert

Dr. James A. Lambert, 84, of Girard and Liberty Township, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 23rd, 2026, at the Hospice House in Poland.

James, also affectionately known as "Jimmie," was born on August 7th, 1941, a son to the late James and Mary Jane Lambert.

He graduated from Girard High School with the class of 1959 as Valedictorian. Here, he was known to start various clubs on his own, bringing like-minded students together who all shared similar interests. He was inducted to the Girard Hall of Fame for football. Jimmie was also involved in the Boy Scouts of America, obtaining his Eagle Scout status.

James later moved towards an extensive and accomplished career as a family otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat doctor). He attended his undergraduate program at Marietta College, where he had joined the fraternity Delta Upsilon, later finishing his medical degree at Case Western Reserve. He later attended YSU for a degree in business management. Jimmie opened his own practice, 5th Avenue Otolaryngology, where he helped countless families across the county for over 30 years. He also served as President of the Mahoning County Medical Association in 1990.

He proudly served as a Commander in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, where he found great joy in providing medical care to children and families on base. He was honorably discharged in 1975.

Jimmie married Jeannine Dewey on December 29th, 1962, with whom he shared 4 daughters. Though his schedule required long working hours, James never missed the opportunity to spend quality time with his children and family. Whether it was enthusiastically helping the kids with their homework, or coaching their softball teams during their time at Liberty High School, he stepped into fatherhood with attentiveness and love.

A man of many facets, Jimmie was a licensed pilot, taking many solo trips on the west coast. He enjoyed sci-fi, such as Star Trek, and could be found playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons or Magic the Gathering (in which he held an extensive collection of cards), with his family. James was also an avid Cleveland fan, cheering on the Indians or Browns any chance he could. He was also a talented gardener; his flower beds and vegetables were known to be pristine and flourishing.

Those who knew James will remember him the most as a passionate advocate for the needy or marginalized, a true self-starter, and a friend to all.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Diana (Joe) Ellis, Tasha Lambert, Shael (Steve) Phillips, and Regina Lambert; grandchildren, William, Noah, Nathan "Judah," and Stanley; and his brother, Jerry (Helen) Lambert.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Jeannine Lambert, who passed away on April 14th, 2021.

The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life for James at a later date.

He will be laid to rest at Lake Park Cemetery, next to Jeannine.
