James P. Walker, of McDonald, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at Ohio Living Park Vista, in Youngstown, with his family at his side. Jim was born March 7, 1924, in Girard, Ohio, the son of John and Mary ( Sullivan) Walker. Jim enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps In 1942, and served his country, in the US Army, serving as a surgical technician,during WW II. Jim had worked for 36 years in Youngstown Sheet and Tube, retiring in 1980, and also worked 10 years for the Ohio Board of Liquor Control. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and a lifetime member of the VFW Post #419, where he held the positions of, Post Commander, Trustee, Quarter Master and Canteen Manager, and was also a Trumbull County Council Commander. Jim enjoyed camping at Mosquito Lake, working crossword puzzles and being with his family. He leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Rev. James P. Walker Jr., of McDonald, his daughter, Sharon M. (Duane) Mayfield, of McDonald and his grandson, James Jones, of Warren. Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Lottie (Bowser) Walker, whom he married April 21, 1950 and died December 9, 1999, his sister, Elizabeth "Sally" Garstka and brothers; William Walker, Edward Walker, John "Casey" Walker, Bartholomew (Bert )Walker, and infant brother Robert. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 24th, 11:00 AM, at Blackstone Funeral Home, in Girard, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service and also on Tuesday from 4-7 PM, with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 PM, for the intention of peace and healing of the world, our nation, and the church. The family would like to thank the staff of Ohio Living Park Vista and Hospice personnel for their excellent care.
