Joan E. Smith

Joan E. Smith, 84, of Liberty Twp., passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025 at O'Brien Memorial Nursing Home in Masury, Ohio.

Joan was born December 6, 1940 in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of Richard E. and Lillian (Gray) Wester.

She had worked for Northside Hospital, Costello's Candies in Girard, the cafeteria for Liberty Schools and also Sam's Club in Niles, but for most of her life Joan was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family.

Joan was a member of Church Hill United Methodist Church in Liberty Twp., and was formerly a member of the Red Hatter's Club and Garden Club. She enjoyed going to plays and special outings and events with her friends. She loved Christian music and was an avid animal lover.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Bryan C. Smith of Austintown, Heather (Edwin) Baldwin of McDonald, and Craig (Christina) Smith of Girard; sister, Carla Bartel of McDonald; brother, Gerald (Marilyn) Wester of Stow, Ohio; and her grandchildren, Eddie Baldwin, Joey Baldwin, Chloe Baldwin and Annabelle Smith.

Besides her parents, Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Ivor G. Smith, whom she married June 12, 1965 and died September 23, 1997.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 17th, 4:00 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home at 672 Churchill Road in Girard where the family will receive relatives and friends from 3:00 PM until the time of service.

Joan will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery next to her husband.

The family suggests that any memorial contributions be made to Joan's church, Church Hill United Methodist in Liberty Township.
