John Albert Kay Sr., 80, of Girard, passed away on Monday, March 30th, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.
John was born on September 24th, 1945 in Youngstown, Ohio, a son to Albert and Wanda (Humble) Kay.
He graduated from Girard High School, and was a member of Girard First United Methodist Church.
After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army, where he was honorably discharged. A lifelong resident, John worked for the City of Girard in the water department, where he retired after 25 years of service.
He was an avid sports fan, cheering specifically for Ohio teams. He could be found watching Ohio State, the Guardians, the Browns, or the Cavs on any given day. Highlighting his love for sports, he also coached Girard's Little League and Pony League baseball teams for many years.
He leaves behind his two sons, John Kay and Joseph Kay; his sister, Susan (Edward) Ardale; brother, James (Beverly) Kay; granddaughter Theresa Rose Kay; and his beloved dog Archie
.Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Theresa (Cretella) Kay, whom he married on January 27th, 1984, and who passed away on April 11, 2020. He is also preceded by his brothers, Richard, Russell, and Thomas "Sandy" Kay.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, April 11th, 2026, from 10 am - 12 pm at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, with a memorial service following at noon.
He will be laid to rest at Girard Cemetery with military honors.
