Leona M. Shontz

Leona M. Shontz, 92, of Girard, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.

Leona was born January 27, 1933 in Girard, Ohio, the daughter of Raymond E. and Cora (Hughes) Richards.

Leona had worked as an LPN nurse for Northside Hospital for a few years before devoting herself as a full time wife and mother to her family. She enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband and was a member of the Holiday Ramblers with him. Leona also enjoyed quilting, was an artist and painted beautiful pictures and loved working in her garden full of flowers.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children; Deborah Duer of Vienna, Donald G. (Lorena) Shontz Jr. of Miamisburg, Ohio, and Mark (Sissy) Shontz Sr. of Lordstown; sister, Sarah Hendrickson of Bristolville; grandchildren, Mark, DJ and Lindsey; and her precious great-grandchildren, Rowan, Roark, Nash and Nixon.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Donald G. Shontz Sr., whom she married December 12, 1952 and died August 13, 2020, her sister, Martha E. Richards, and her son-in-law, David L. Duer.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 4th, 12:00 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home where the family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
