Mary Lou Palmer

Mary Lou Palmer, 95, of Girard, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary Lou was born May 6, 1930 in Donora, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Edgar and Melissa (Davis) Hammers.

Mary Lou had previously owned and operated an H&S Green Stamp store and worked at Hills Department store. She was a member of Girard First United Methodist Church, where she had sung in the choir. She enjoyed her card club for many years with her friends, sewing, especially costumes for her daughter's competitions. Her greatest love was for her grandchildren, babysitting them and watching them in all their activities for so many years.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children; Kelly (Willie) Palmer-Smith and Jeffrey L. (Angela) Palmer, both of Girard; brothers Wells Hammers of Medina and Homer Hammers of Florida; grandchildren, Richard L. (Jean) Palmer III, Shane Palmer, Brittany Kershaw, Ashley (Josh) Powell, Jeffrey (Kelli) Palmer, Ryan Palmer, Justine (Raymond) Agnone, Shelley Richards, Jaiymi (Ron) Wendt and Nicole (Terry) Lucas; and great grandchildren, Edward, Alivia, Logan, Jackson, Peyton, Lucian, Layla, Asher, Adrian, Nina, Sam, Daphne, Phoebe, Ben, Bob and Bryce.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard L. Palmer, whom she married September 25, 1950 and died December 14, 2022, son Richard L. Palmer II and daughter in law Candy Palmer; sisters, Isabelle Lynn and Leah Rogenski; and her brothers, David Hammers, Paul Hammers and Harry Hammers.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 4th, 4:00 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00 PM until the time of service.

Mary Lou will be laid to rest at Girard City Cemetery next to her husband.
