Nick Ben, 79, of Girard, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 with family members at his side.  Nick was born on February 20, 1932 in Warren, Ohio the son of the late Fetko and Pearl Mochak Ben.  He was a retired accountant from Packard Electric after 35 years and recently retired from his own tax business.  He was a Veteran of the United States Army in the Korean War.  Nick was a member of the Girard Free Library Board of Trustees for many years and also served as a treasurer for more than 10 years.  He was an active member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Warren, and regularly volunteered in the kitchen.  Nick had many interests including golf, bridge, bowling, watching high school football, and most importantly, attending his granddaughter's activities.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, the former Marilyn Romanowsky whom he married on May 29, 1954, three children, Paulette Seiser of Milan, Michigan, Lynette (Fedele) DeSantis of Brecksville, Ohio, and Kenneth (Johnna) Ben of Mineral Ridge, five granddaughters, Susan Ben, Kristen (Eric) Knieper, Nina and Angela DeSantis and Megan Ben, one great-granddaughter, Ava Knieper, sister, Gladys Goodman, brother-in-laws, Anthony (Roma) Romanowsky, and Ray Lozinski, sister-in-law, Stella Woytek, many nieces and nephews, and numerous other friends and relatives.  He was preceded in death by his siblings, Katherine Schick, Mary Makar, Ann Lozinski, Daniel and John Ben. The family will receive friends and relatives at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, OH on Sunday September 18, 2011 from 5pm to 8pm. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Monday September 19, 2011 at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 2053 North Road N.E. Warren Ohio, 44483 where the family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service.
