Peter J. Pizzulo, 63, of Cortland, passed away on Saturday, June 21st, 2025, in New York.
Peter was born on June 4th, 1963, the only child to Martha and Peter F. Pizzulo. And although Pete was an only child, his extended family of cousins were like brothers and sisters to him, and they shared a lifelong bond of love.
After graduating from McDonald High School, Pete went on to his illustrious career in law enforcement, and he continued his education throughout. He attended the Ohio Peace Officer's Academy, where he studied criminal justice. He trained with the United States Coast Guard, where he was on Marine Patrol. Peter received investigative training through the FBI, and attended the Police Academies in both Quantico, Viginia, as well as Scotland Yard in Westminster, London. Pete was also trained in advanced firearms, and eventually became an instructor for the Ohio Peace Officers training program.
Thus, his impressive career started in McDonald, where he was a fireman and medic. He then became a police officer for Brookfield Township, Ohio, and volunteered as a fireman/EMT for Mecca Township, Ohio. Peter then went on as a Sheriff's Deputy for the Trumbull County Sheriff's Department, where he climbed to Detective Sergeant, and also Homicide Investigator.
Peter was a member of: The Trumbull County SWAT team, Tactical Response Team, Dive Rescue Team, Drug Task Force, Homicide Task Force, and the Ohio Marine Patrol.
After retiring from law enforcement, Pete became the owner and operator of Pizzulo's Affordable Home Solutions. He was also zoning inspector for Vienna Township. Lately, Peter worked as an ironworker for Quality Metal Works, while also being the zoning inspector for Bazetta Township.
But above all of this, Peter's proudest accomplishment of all was his four children, who he was extremely proud of - and he took every opportunity to brag about their life achievements, dreams, and goals.
Poppa Pete will be forever cherished by his two granddaughters, Macie and Charlie, especially the great memories he made for them at Camp Chautauqua, and their competitive game nights at the kitchen table.
Peter and his wife, Kerry Renee, shared 20 years together, and enjoyed traveling to beach destinations, checking off a good part of their bucket list. They spent the past ten years building their "happy place getaway" at Chautauqua Lake in New York, and at Camp Chautaqua Resort, they formed lasting friendships that became another family. Pete loved his camp friends, and was happiest while there with them, just sitting around a campfire.
Pete built lasting friendships throughout his life, and referred to most as his brothers. He was a Jack-of-all-Trades, and was called on often to fix something, which he would happily do. His cousin, Ray, relied heavily on him to keep equipment and production running at Quality Metal Works. His wife referred to him as "Poogle," as she rarely had to Google anything - she would simply ask Pete.
Pete had a countless number of best friends, and if you were lucky enough to be one, you always got the very best from him. His wife had a great deal of admiration and respect for Pete's level of intelligence and his commitment to taking care of the people that he loved.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kerry Renee (Robertson) Pizzulo, who he married on February 14, 2006; his children, Alexis (Marty) Pizzulo, Gianna Pizzulo, Chase Schuyler, and Christina Crish; his granddaughters, Macie and Charlie Mendenhall; brother-in-laws Dale Robertson and Shawn McDowell; and mother-in-law Jeanne McDowell, who loved him as if he were her own son.
Along with his parents, Peter is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Michael Milliron.
Family and friends will gather at Blackstone Funeral Home for a final visitation on Monday, June 30th, from 9AM to 11AM, followed by another session from 4-7PM, with a memorial and police honor service at 7:00PM.
The family asks that any material contributions be made to Camp Good Days, an incredible organization based in New York dedicated to giving children with cancer a normal, fun camping experience - where Pete and his wife volunteered with for the past 4 years at Camp Chautauqua. We encourage friends to visit the link below to read more about what they do: https://www.campgooddays.org
A celebration of life will be held for Pete at a later date, and will be open to his family and friends.
