Samuel J. Revella, 90, of Girard, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at his home. Sam was born July 5, 1928, in Girard, the son of Salvatore and Carmel (Ruggiero) Revella. Sam served his country in the Army during the Korean War, as a corporal and cooking instructor. He first worked at Ohio Leather Works where he then worked at Girard Fire Department as a firefighter from 1959 to 1964. In 1964, he then became captain until 1973, where he then became chief. Sam retired as chief of Girard Fire Department in 1990. He was a member of St. Rose Church, and was a member of their choir. Sam was a part of many associations including, the International Fire Chief Association, the International Association of Firefighters, and Trumbull County Fire Chief Association. In 1983 he was awarded the Ohio Service Valor award, for an incident that occurred on November 5, 1981, when an aircraft crashed into the Eastwood Mall. At the time he was off duty, but nearby, to be the first responder on the scene, and became actively involved. Sam was president of the Girard Library Board, and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Girard. He was founder of the blood drive in Girard, and was a CPR instructor. One of the things he was best known for was his beautiful singing voice. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 67 years, Frances (Paolone) Revella, whom he married August 26, 1950, his children; Marsha (Dennis) Soroka of Vienna, Sherri (Dan) Mochtyak of Poland, and Lori Revella of Liberty, grandchildren; Luke Soroka, Justin (Jenny) Soroka, Jimmy (Miranda) Petruzzi, Kenny (fiancee Colleen) Suich, and Liza Suich, and great grandchildren; Andrew, Grace, and Evelyn. He was preceded in death by his sister Mary, and brothers, Andrew, Michael, and Albert. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 22nd, at 11:00 AM, at St. Rose Church in Girard, preceded by a prayer service at 10:30 AM at Blackstone Funeral Home. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, August 21st, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Sam will be laid to rest at Girard City Cemetery, with military honors.
