Stephanie Harrison, of Girard, passed away at dawn on Monday September 16, 2024 after a long battle with multiple illnesses. Born August 25,1957 in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the 3rd of 6 children of Joseph and Katherine (Stanko) Matasy.
Her working career was in the medical field helping others in many capacities from office manager in a private practice setting, to medical transcription in various hospitals. Stephanie loved to be a part of any family gathering where she could enjoy a good time with laughter and a well-made margarita (Patron only!). We all will cherish memories of her dancing to 70's music such as the Temptations, singing and jamming with her brother Mike to impromptu R&B renditions on guitar. Her "signature" mashed potatoes will also be missed at holiday gatherings. Though her family meant everything to her, she didn't mind spending quiet days alone watching her favorite soap opera, the Young and the Restless, or reading the newspaper or any book while enjoying a cold diet coke (ahhhh!). She was also a member of St. Rose church in Girard.
Only 67 years young, her memory is forever etched and carried dearly in the hearts of family and friends who survive her: two sons, Garrett (Michelle) Shonce of Florida and Matthew (Katie) Harrison of Girard. She loved and cherished each of her siblings: Katherine (Vance) Koven Matasy of Boston; Joseph (Jocelyn) Matasy of Youngstown; Monica Ezzo of Pittsburgh; Michael Matasy of North Jackson; Victoria (Mike Hernan) Matasy, MD of Pittsburgh. She also leaves three grandchildren Alexsandra & Alaina Shonce of Florida and Elijah Harrison of Girard; along with 6 nieces and nephews; including a special niece, Kayli, whom she considered her 'person'. The family would like to mention 3 of her amazing neighbors whom she cared for so deeply and considered to be family; John, Faye and Frank. Thank you for making memories with her around the backyard fire.
Keeping with Stephanie's wishes a private grave-side memorial service was held and attended by family. She was laid to eternal rest with her parents at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
