Thomas P. McDermott, 80, of Girard, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Tom was born August 10, 1943 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Peter and Agnes (Bradley) McDermott. Tom had worked for Sharon Steel as an electrician for thirty years, and retired from Monroe Fabricating after twenty years working as a crane operator. He served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Tom was a member of St. Rose Church. He had been a Little League coach for baseball and softball for many years in Girard and later enjoyed watching his grandchildren play ball. Tom also enjoyed fishing in his spare time. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 57 years, Margaret (Reesh) McDermott, whom he married July 2, 1966; his children, Colleen McDermott of Girard and Leonard (Deanna) McDermott of McDonald; sister, Kathleen (Stuart) Rothman of Boardman; brother, Robert (Nancy) McDermott of Boardman; grandchildren, Meghan (Matt) Blount, Kerrigan McDermott and Bailey McDermott; great-grandchildren, Isabella McDermott, Jacob Blount and Emma Blount. Besides his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Rosalie McDermott; son-in-law Stephen Roush; and nephews, Jeremy Rothman and Peter McDermott. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 13th at 11:30 AM, at Blackstone Funeral Home, where visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Tom will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery with military honors.
