Theresa "Terri" (Bendik) Madden

February 4, 1931 — December 28, 2019

Theresa "Terri" Madden, 88, of Girard, was born in New Springfield, Ohio on February 4, 1931, the sixth of eight children born to Joseph and Kathryn Jurek Bendik. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Mary Petrencik (Andrew),  Kathryn "Kay" Timko (John), and Marge Harris, and brothers, Joe and John.
She will be greatly missed and mourned by sisters, JoAnn Smith (Tom) of Poland, Mildred "Millie" Niece (Glen) of New Springfield, husband of sixty- two years, John "Jack" and son Jack (Brenda) of Girard, daughter and granddaughter, Michele and Aris Ransom, of Memphis, TN, son Mark (Rita) of Memphis, grandchildren Eric Madden (Krista) of McDonald, Courtney Keller (Matt) of Greys Lake, IL, three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond.
While Terri was in high school her mother died. Terri withdrew from school a short time later to help rear her two younger sisters. She returned to school by enrolling in Youngstown's South High night school in 1959 after the birth of her first child, graduated with honors in 1967, and enrolled in YSU that fall. She earned her BA in fine arts degree in 1985, the same year her daughter graduated from KSU. She was active in the local art community as a docent at the Butler Institute, a founding member of the Mahoning Valley Watercolor Society, and worked on several commissions and projects over the years. Her favorite medium was watercolor. She was awarded signature membership in the Ohio Watercolor Society in 2013. In recent years she concentrated on miniature painting, works that are twenty-five square inches or less in size. She participated in several shows in many states and was particularly pleased to display one of her pieces in Moscow Russia in the International Miniature Artists Show. She was a founder and active in the Girard Herb Club and greatly enjoyed the friendships of its members.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 31st, at 3:00 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Terri will be laid to rest at Girard City Cemetery. The family suggests any memorial contributions be made in memory of Terri to: St. Rose School, 48 E. Main St., Girard, Ohio 44420, or the Emmanuel Care Center, 2 N. State St., Girard, Ohio 44420.
